Snakes Of Cinema (Vol. 1): ANANCONDA 2

After reading the following article it seems the (queer as) folk from hollywood are herpetologically inept. Columbia tri-star pictures is soon to realease ANACONDAS: THE HUNT FOR THE BLOOD ORCHID. Among the falacies are the fact that it takes place in Borneo, which as the best of us know is not home to any Anaconda! Maybe if this movie were called RETICS it would be different. Then the movies plot refers to a snake guarding an anciet youth serum. Well of course thats just stupid. An anaconda in borneo giving a rats a$$ about some lame flower. LOL. If this isnt enough the movies trailer features, well its what they call an anaconda (which by the way is a computer graphic snake that could possably be Bob Clarks latest burm mutation but it sure ain't an anny). The best part of the preview clip is where this shiney fake looking mostrosity lifts its eyebrow at the camera and squints its small eyes! When ever anyone see's a real snake squint let me know. I know its a low budget film, but folks can't we at least have a herpetologist on set before we make a film about a snake.

Here's The article:
Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid" is a horror-thriller set in a primitive Borneo jungle. A group of scientists set off on a dangerous journey down a jungle river in search of an extremely rare blood orchid that is rumored to be the source of a youth-preserving serum. What they don't realize is that within the mysteries of the jungle lies a deadly predator who keeps the secret of the orchids safe and stops anyone who dares to enter its territory from leaving...

P.s. At least the first film had J Lo's pretty face to look at. Oh yeah, and it was in the Amazon!

They were filming this movie on the Island of Viti Levu in Fiji when we were there last year. At least Borneo has big snakes. Fiji has a total of two terrestrial snakes (Fiji Ground Boa and a highly venomous, but extremely rare elapid).

Since the first movie was one of the worst films I have ever seen, the second promises to be a real winner!

Sunday afternoon, when it is much easier to suspend disbelief. The whole genre is great, not for information, but for laugh at the industry, bad acting and yelling advice at the TV. My kids love them. But hey, they were raised on Godzilla.
Snakehead Terror, Komodo, Curse of the Komodo, Bugs, Anaconda, Python, Boa, Ratz......

Known for the amazing elastic monsters that grow and shrink as screen allows and famous for such lines as (in a giant snake film) "Shhhhh, it will hear you" as they stomp around whispering.

I think it is one of those "You know you're a herper if....."
I noted that Cutthroat Island had several different snake and monitor species....none from the geographic area they were involved in.

I think they do it so that no one even remotely thinks of correcting them. They are too too far out there.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

it's unfortunate how many people actually believe those movies are accurate representations of those animals behave.
