How to create an OPEN chameleon enclosure

RKGrapeJr May 05, 2004 11:36 PM

I saw a ways down someone posted a pic of their chameleon canopy. I am interested in creating something to like it. My question is how do you do it? Would it be possible to use a ficus tree without screening it in? Or would a hanging one work better? And if so what type of plants would be recommended? I have never had a chemeleon but am planning on getting a velied in a few months and would like enclosure suggestions so I can get the construction underway. Any help would be appreciated

thanks alot,

RKGrapeJr

Rather than try to explain what I've done, there is a description of a free range setup for Meller's chams on a back issue of http://www.chameleonnews.com that should give you ideas. Frankly, I think you can provide a better bigger habitat by setting up a clump of plants around a larger Ficus than the C.Canopy or Condo offer. It's going to depend on what other critters and traffic is in your house, the house climate, hazards (most free ranged chams wander a lot until they realize their space has everything they need). I like free ranging myself, but it depends on the individual animal, their level of shyness, and having the perfect spot to set it up.
