What's This Frog Called? Is it Safe?

turtlesong May 06, 2004 06:02 AM

A strange frog lives here in Korea. It has a red belly, red feet, and green and black splotched back. It makes a soft "woo-woo" sound during mating, and I just witnessed a whole brood of them going at it in a little pond. What's this frog called? Moreover, is it poisonous? I wouldn't mind making one a pet, since they're found in abudance here, but I'm afraid it might me poisonous.

If your being serious its a fire belly frog and yes they have mild toxins but it won't do anything unless your allergic as long as you wash your hands well after handling which they shouldn't be handled often only when cleaning their cage.

Yes, I'm being quite serious. I remember seeing these frogs at the pet shop back in Chicago, but never in my life would I've thought I'd see them in the wild! They're here, in Korea, in great abundance! Maybe I'll make a couple of pets of some of them. Do they make good pets?

Korea is one of the major export sites for these frogs so no doubt you found them in abundance there. If you want to bring one home get ready to sneak it through the airport because I bet the charges to have the right paperwork done will be much more expensive than the 8.99 you can pay for it here.
