What makes a Jungle a Jungle?

Prehistoric May 06, 2004 03:44 PM

I have seen tons of pics of jungles. I get the super jungle part. But some of the jungles I have seen look pretty normal. Other are striped. How can you tell the difference between a nice striped and a jungle? What characteristics make a boa a jungle? One thing I noticed is the spots within the saddles, does this have something to do with it?

I would appreciate knowing more about the research that went into designating the "Jungle" as a specific morph.

I have seen a published article that I believe was written by Rich Ihle that discusses his Salmon line of boas and how these boas were determined to be a specific and separate morph.. is there anything out there discussing the Jungle Boa?

I suppose I could do a little research at the public library or internet... but I guess I'm being lazy right now.

anyone know of any published literature on the Jungle Boa?

If you breed, say, an albino or any other recessive morph to a normal you will a litter that is 100 percent het for that trait, meaning they carry that gene, but do not show it. From what i understand, a jungle morph is a dominate trait so when you breed a normal to a jungle then 50 percent of the litter will be jungle and show it and the other would be just normal. So in order to tell by sight, i would say jungles have a distinct look to them, but you can't really prove it out unless you breed it.

P.S. this is how i understand it to be anyway.

go look at peter kahls website, he has some pictures of jungles het for albino. they are beautiful and i think they have a distinct appearance. their coloration and patern looks slightly different than any abberrant boa i have ever seen. Its just a certain quality that they have, hard to describe.
