Panacur Doses

spydergirl May 06, 2004 04:30 PM

Hi everyone. I now have 3 BPs,of all different sizes. One is a 8 inch teeny tiny baby, one is a 2.5 ft. and one is a 4ft adult. I know the bbay i just got was Captive Hatched, and the 4 ft BP had diarrhea last night,so id like to deworm them. I have panacur liquid redily availible to me. id like to know if anyone knows the proper dosages for the different sizes of BPs,and could instruct me on how to administer it. Do you need to do it in a cycle? Thanks for any help.

...is based on weight, and 25 mg/pound is good. However, I recommend 50mg/# for more heavily infested imports. This worming agent has a wide margin of safety. A concurrent shot of ivermectin 0.1 mg/# is also recomended as a double-whammy to assure nematode (roundworm) clearence. Panacur is most effectively dosed using a canine red rubber urinary catheter sized appropriately for the snake.
That little baby of 8 inches sounds a bit small. If it hasn't fed yet I see no need to dose it yet however. Perhaps waiting until you have it well-started feeding would be a better course of action.

I always use 50 mg/pound. I use a metal canule with a knob at the end of the apropriate size. I insert it to just 1 inch behind the head of the snake then administer the medicine. I massage it down to the stomache and hold the animal vertical for about 10 second or so, works great. By the way if your are at it, give it metronidazole 100 mg/pound also. If one of my animals has diarhea I always do a feacal exam to find out if it might be something else but roundworms or flagelates. I suggest to try to do so next time. If your animal has tapeworms, you have to give it something else instead of panacur.

...a good idea concurrently and 100mg/# certianly should eliminate any sensitive pathogens. For cestodes (tapeworms) -
