the prettiest treefrog of the eastern USA

rdbartlett Jun 16, 2003 12:27 PM

Hyla andersonii is locally distributed in acidic habitats in the Pine Barrens of NJ, the Carolinas, FL's western pahandle, and adjacent AL.
It is remarkably similar to the European treefrog, H. arborea, in superficial appearance.

especially when they have the nice brown spots.......

And bird voiced treefrogs have the neatest call.

I guess I should have said "arguably." .
Actually, all are great.
I couldn't get the image of the versicolor to open.
Do I have to go to a linK? dick

And yes, all three are superior treefrogs.
But avivoca still has the neatest call!

you're only saying that Carl because you've never heard _true_ versicolor. I place versicolor (not to be confused with the hoarse stacatto of chrysoscelis) first and avivoca a very close second.

Everyone knows that the Bullfrog has the most beautiful call.

just won't open.

I am going to have to agree with Bartlet on this one. H. andersonii are some of the most beautiful frogs in the east.
I own two males that I got from a friend, just wish I could get a female or two.
I have owned the two males for a few years and have not been able to find anyone willing to send me a female. I am not shure if H. andersonii are protected everywhere but if they are then this may be the reason why nobody has volenteered to sell/trade me any.
