AFT's...okay...i want to know some stuff about these guys

ericchen May 07, 2004 12:24 AM

first...i heard they were calm and gentle when u handle them and don't "complain" like leos do..then i heard that they stress easy...then i saw a post about a noneating and a late-eating AFT...and its the nightmare all over again....i wanted to get an AFT...but by the sounds of it...they aren't so appealing any more...i was never a GREAT fan of morphs so i would be content with a well eating...not easily stressed AFT....cuz it tugs at my heart that my leos hate being handled so all i can handle is my hog......for some reasons ive never had a handleable lizard...except my male which is decent when i pick him up...the rest just wag their tails and sprint....ive also heard from other sources that AFT's are GOOD eaters and NOT easily stressed...now i know most of the things mentioned are individual characteristics...but i need to know!...cuz i might be picking a pair up next week!..

also...who would u recommend as a good breeder of GOOD EATING...well behaved little AFTS...because darn those are cute little buggers ...

i was wondering if they thrive better individually or in a group...as i heard they are quite social animals...but i would actually prefer them individual...as its easier to monitor their growth and food intake etc....also can they be fed mealies in a dish?...i mean i don't want no non eating afts...haha..im quite paranoid about nonfeeders.....ive had horrible experiences...

I have three I've gotten from 3 separate sources, and have never had a problem with them eating. They are great to handle (except in shed, then they don't want to be touched, but that's to be expected), so mellow. My daughter has leo's, and I find them too twitchy, so I like the fatties that just hang out on my hand. She finds the fatties too placid, likes the leos 'cause they move around more. So I think you'll be happy with the fat-tails.
Oh, I keep my three separate, as they are juvies at different ages and sizes, but no problems.

I have kept AFts for over 4 yrs and they only stop eating if there set-up is changed frequently. They like to be single or in a pair(male and female).

They are the best geckos ever!

They are very mellow but dont piss one off cause when they bite they grab your skin and twist like they want to take a piece of skin off.
Also I have found that its better to feed the fat tails every other day. They seem to eat more and grow faster.
