Hovabator/Incubation question

Andy1982 May 07, 2004 01:36 AM

My female leo is about to lay eggs again, and this time i am prepared!! At least i think. I have an incubator now, so that is a start. I have the thermal hovabator bought through lllreptile with the package of deli cups and vermiculate. Couple questions. First off, should i trust the thermometer that came with the hovabator or should i use one bought at radioshack with the temp probe. If i should use the radioshack one, is it ok to just run the cord in there or will the incubator lose too much of its seal if i do that. Any help or suggestions would be very nice!

Next question, how much vermiculate should i use? and How far should i "bury" the eggs? About half way?? And how moist should it be?? How much water be added the vermiculate??

Those were my main questions. Any help and/or information would be very much appreciated! Also, this will be my first attempt at breeding . . . well . . . anything!, so any advice would also be very much appreciated! Thank you!

As far as the thermometer, I am not familiar with that particular one, but it's hard to imagine that the cord would be so thick as to cause much of a heater loss, if you just bend it a bit. I use the regular thermometer that it came with as a back up and use the digital w/probe as well.

As far as the rest of the questions, the most thorough info I have seen, and often seen recomended is at: www.albeysreptiles.com/incubate-eggs.htm

Hope it helps...
