So 1.0 Pastels and 5.0 normals probably then? Sweet deal.

LOL...sorry, In light of recent threads, how could I resist? Great picture man. What kind of camera do you use?

jeff favelle May 07, 2004 11:02 AM

I'm using an old HP Photosmart 2.5 megapixel. Cost me damn near $850 when I got it 3 years ago, but is worth about 100 bucks now, LOL!! But I'll never get rid of it as the whole lense system is Pentax! So I can use any Pentax lenses!! Zoom, macro, wide angle, fish-eye, etc etc. That's why I got it. But if I do buy one, I'd get the Canon A80. That camera just rocks!

Cheers!

Very nice pics. We've got a Fuji S5000 that we absolutely love. I'm no photography buff, so I'm still not well schooled in the finer points of using the thing. I've got the book, but I'm too lazy/unmotivated to read it. Oh well...I'm sure I'll do it one of these days. I've just never been able to duplicate the great hatching shots you do. I have a little trouble with lighting on my super close ups. Any tips? I want to get some great hatching shots when my next BP clutch hatches here in a few days. I seem to do OK with close ups of animals out of the egg....

Het clown?

JP May 07, 2004 12:20 PM

Well, no I don't think so...Why, is it common for het clowns to have that? I bought the snake as a captive hatched baby last year. He's got a great reduced pattern and I've got an even more extreme female from a couple of years ago. They both have pure white bellies with no markings. I'll post a picture of each below. They resemble the "tigers" posted here earlier this week. They should breed next year, and I cant wait to see what is produced.

"is it common for het clowns to have that?"

That's what I'm trying to find out. I think it was the June 2002 Breeder's Bragging Post on VPI that showed pics of two classic jungle type girls that where possible het clowns. They both had the broken eye stripes. I never heard if either or both proved and of course their appearance might not have had anything to do with the clown gene. However I think the animal the mutation was named for had an odd eye stripe (like a clown teardrop). Even if the clown gene does show in some hets it might be very rare for it to show so not a useful marker in most cases.

Breeding them this year?

JP May 08, 2004 02:44 PM

No, not this year. The female is just now at 1000 grams, and the male about 400. They'll be ready to go next year! I can't wait.....Thanks for the comments!

jeff favelle May 07, 2004 12:15 PM

Well, my camera has "macro-mode" so it does most of the work for me, but I've found that with being so close, MORE light helps. A really powerful flashlight can be used in a pinch, but when taking close-ups, the more light the better. Otherwise you haveto have a slower shutter speed, and that's what causes blurrieness.

Cheers man. Cool snake!

We have eggs hatching next week, and all these images are making it so hard to wait! That is a great image.

Good Luck,

For sure. About 1/2 way through now.

Best of luck this season to you as well!
