I park in an area at work that is an opened field. At the edge of this field is a steep rocky cliff that drops off about 20-30 feet to another field. I back my Wagon up to the edge of this cliff so I can observe the reptiles before work and during my breaks. Ok that being said I would like to share a couple of observations I made there. First of all a couple weeks ago I observed one Western Fence Lizard jumping from rock to rock. We all know this is not uncommon but each rock the individual would land on it would “wag it tail” from side to side a few times before jumping to the next rock Interesting? Another observation was a male individual doing his territorial “pushups” This male individual was the more brilliantly colored fence lizard I ever observed. He had deep blue and black on his belly and to my surprise a metallic very reflective yellow on the sides of his chest. The center of his chest showed a slightly duller yellow while his neck appeared just blue and black. He had magnificent dark green and teal running the length of his body down his back. As I approached him he turned and faced me puffing u his side making himself look larger than he was and sticking out the little dolap on his neck while doing his pushups. This is another thing that was neat. I have had a billion fence lizards run away from me but this was the first individual I have observed turning to face and take on a 145LB 5’9” man. LOLJ Any comments?
