question about "ghosts".....

lilroach56 May 07, 2004 03:48 PM

I have a few questions about "ghosts". In the Boa (BC ssp/RTB) world a "ghost" is the combination of hypomelanistic and anery/axanthic. But in the BP word "ghost" is the common term for hypomelanistic. Who/when/why did the term "ghost" become a name for hypomelanisitic in the BP world? also as anyone bred an axanthic hypo?

Yea I'm not sure either why the term "ghost" was coined with the hypos. I think I read on Ralph Davis' site that combining a hypo with an axanthic would create a "True" Ghost, although I'm not sure if anyone has got that far yet, and I'm not sure how it would look. I'm sure it would look awesome. I currently have an Orange Hypo and plan to breed him to some female co-doms in the future.

The reason they were called "Ghost" is that David & Tracy Barker imported one of the first "Hypo" way back before the double mutations morphs were produced i.e. Ghost corns, Ghost boas etc...they coined this Hypo "ghost" because of its ghostly appearance.

Now, a lot of breeders/keepers are now calling them "Hypos" and rightly so...It is hoped that the Ghost nomoclanture (sp?) will be lost with time. After all, doesn't a "true Ghost" sound stupid.

Hypos people!
