New Tegu Q

Yes yes congrats to me i got a CBW tegu........Ok so let the questions begin.......I have had him for aprox two and a half days. He seems to be accomodating nicely...I have been feeing him crickeets, I tired wax worms and some baby food banana on a lil tray but he didnt even thnink it was food then i dropped a few crickets in there and he gobbled em up....What is a good way to get my tegu to try new foods? Also I have some live ferns in here with him...no roots...jsut the leaves to make it more green for him....i didnt read anywwehre that these were bad for him...i havent seen him eat them....Hhe is a very nice tegu.....like i really know...but he is ahndlable, he is out all day basking or sleeping on por near his rock or climbing his habahut or somthnign,, he does burrow around 8 pm and i dont seem him ecerv again till the morning but it doesnt really bother me, i get my time in with him during the day....also i kow they need high humdidty levels...i dont have a gauge but have sprayed his cage two or three squirts like every 5 hours or longer.....is thius ok? thanks for helkps hes about 10 inches his naem is salsbury

you sound like you are doing a good job so far i have raised a number of monitors and a number of tegus,take your time with him or her, just like you are doing ,yes it is good to spray the cage to keep up the humidity thats very important for them, you could try giving him a few pinks or a few turkey balls with a peice of fruit in the middle if you give him one or the other make sure you dust it with some calcium and a little vitamins wont hurt neither,i usualy hide a peice of bannana in the turkey ball to get one of mine to eat the fruit .but remember not to make the turkey diet the main source of food you will want to stick with crickets,roaches,fruit,pinks,fuzzies,and hoppers,and when he gets big enough stay with a diet of fruit and mice and chicks if you want to give him a variaty....good luck with your tegu buddy...
