Blood during 1st mating session...

thancox May 07, 2004 07:26 PM

Greetings to all!

I mated my female and male bearded dragons for the 1st time. 1min. after I put my male bearded in the female's cage, they went at it and was finished mating within 30sec or less.

When my male bearded pulled away, I noted blood coming from him. Is this normal? If not, what should I do?

I desire replies from professional breeders or from those who have gone through this with their bearded dragons and learned how to deal with the issue.

However, all input is welcome.

Thank you all for you support!

Tisha

Completely normal. It doesn't always happen, but is just a side effect of breeding. Nothing to do for it.

Yeah totally common. No aid necessary. I have seen my male spout blood for a few seconds like he popped an artery! But it goes away. It is usually caused by a scale penetrating the hemipenes.
