On May 6, 2004 The LWLF Commission imposed new regulations on macroclemys temmincii, the alligator snapping turtle in response to Senate Resolution 49 by Senator Robert Barham. This resolution was to urge and request that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries place a moratorium on the taking of alligator snapping turtles. The Commissioners voted to put into effect, September of 2004, the new regulation that halts the taking or possession of wild alligator snappers or their parts thereof by anybody that has a Louisiana Collector's License, a Wholsale/Dealer's License or a commercial fishing license. The recreational or pet trade is not affected. You may collect up to 4 per day but they may not be bought, sold or traded.
