I've tried evrything i think possible

morgan5 May 08, 2004 07:59 AM

The little bugger still won't eat. I tried everything including: Pinkies, Hoppers, braining, scenting with a gerbil, the pillow case, Feeding at midnight, in the morning, pre-killed, FT etc. Temps are right(good gradient, Approx ~80 to 90), humidity is a little low but i am fixing that. He is starting to get a little on the thin side but still looks healthy. BUT here is the questions...

How long is it safe for a hatchling (4 week old) not to eat?
When should I start thinking of force feeding as an option?

Thank you in advance.

bp's can survive for months without eating so just try as much as you think is OK.

It might sound menail, but I have found that raising the humidity a bit can get them to eat. Goblin was on a hunger strike for a few months (and I doubt it was because of "breeding time" since he did not do this last year.) I put him in a better-humidity-retaining cage and it seems like his appetite has gone through the roof since then!
Maybe just a coincidence? I don't think so.

...it is NOT good for a baby BP to go more than about 6 weeks TOP without a meal. I feel about 4 weeks is when it's time to consider assist-feeding a SMALL meal. After about this time there tends to be a precipitous fall in the condition of a baby. Don't wait too long.
