One question...

jay6850 May 08, 2004 12:34 PM

I recently tried to breed my male and female south florida kings together, and for some reason, they will not do anything. I have put them both through hibernation, and the female has already shed once. She is still eating and I cannot figure out what is wrong, should i wait for her to shed again, any help would be great, Thanks Alot, Jason

Jason, information that would be useful (essential?) for you to include with your question would be the ages of the snakes; past breeding history; when you warmed them up; date of the female's most recent shed; weight and length of the snakes. I'm not picking on you, a lot of questions like yours are posted here, and then someone says, "hey, well, to really answer that, we need to know...." and then a few posts later, we're down to the nitty gritty. So i hope everyone will try to provide more of that pertinent info in their future inquiries.

as for you, jason, give us that info and somebody here will probably be able to give you a lot more help. regardless, don't give up.

Sorry about that, she is a 2000, and she is about 40-42 inches long, the male is bigger, maybe 46-48 inches, and is a '99 I tried to breed the pair last year, with no luck, and i believed it was because of size, so i tried again this year. I warmed them up in the beginning of march, and the female shed on about april 10. 4-5 days after the shed, we put the snakes together, for an hour- a couple hours at a time. they are now seperated. Sorry about the miniscule amount of information i gave in my last post, i must have been rushing and not thinking, Thanks, Jason

Have you ever probed your snakes to make sure of the sexes. If they are male and female I would keep trying. You should try putting them together at different times of the day. Sometimes they like it in the morning and sometimes they like it in the evening. Also what are your temps. I find sometimes if you kick the temps up to about 85 that does the trick. I think most people pay to much attention to when the female sheds. Most of the time that is the best time to breed, but not all of the time. This year I had two females breed before they even shed one time. I also had females that shed three times before they bred, so you never know when they are going to be in the mood. Good Luck

Jeff
