pac man making sounds, also feeding question........

tribbielvr May 08, 2004 10:43 PM

My pac man had a really good day. He was more active than I have ever seen him, he chased crickets around like he actually enjoyed moving around! ROFL!

Anyway, this evening he found a new place to sleep and I noticed he was making a noise. It was not an actual croak but more like a soft smooching sound, kinda like someone throwing a kiss. He did it three or four times, then stopped, then did it again.

He is only about two months old but has grown quickly. When I got him he was about the size of a nickle but he is about the size of the palm of my hand now. Since he made that noise, do you think that means he is a male? I was not sure if that would be considered "croaking" or if the females make any sounds at all.

I feed him lobster roaches, earthworms, crickets and pinkies and feed him about every other day. He would eat as many and as often as I feed him but I am TRYING not to let him become over weight, but it sure seems he is growing awfully fast. Should I cut back on his feeding?

Thanks for your time.

Nina

This is from an earlier post and shows the caloric needs of the frog and the approximate calories for two of your food choices (I was unable to find any caloric ratings for roaches that were not straight bomb calrimiter runs)

I"m going to post a couple of caloric requirements on weight, you will have to weigh your frog to determine which is the closest.

30 grams at 20 C 0.14 kcal/day (just multiple by 7 to get the weekly need)
30 grams at 25C 0.35 kcal/day

50 grams at 20 C 0.29 kcal/day at 25 C 0.54 kcal/day

80 grams at 20 C 0.43 kcal/day at 25 C 0.80 kcal/day

100 grams at 20 C 0.52 kcal/day at 25 C 0.97 kcal/day

500 grams at 20 C 1.9 kcal/day at 25 C 3.7 kcal/day.

earthworms have 0.5 kcal/gram while crickets are 1.9 kcal/gram.
So with a little math you can figure out the conversion ratio between crickets and earthworms.

Do you recommend any variance with caloric intake based on weight when feeding a growing frog rather than an adult?

Also, about the sound it was making, does that sound like it is a male?
Thanks

Those are the baseline caloric requirements at those temperatures. Frogs with an increased caloric need, such as growth, healing from an injury for example could have a metabolic rate greater than 8 times those levels listed.

My males when they called had a long drawn out fairly high pitched call.
