PERSONAL ISSUES... please read

triniian May 08, 2004 11:42 PM

A lot of people come to this forum looking for advice and get very poorly treated. It really disgusts me.

In the interest of public education and as a REMINDER TO ALL:

The idea of right and wrong are completely dependent upon ethical, moral, cultural and legal standpoints of persons as individuals and as groups. In the instance of CORRECTNESS, if it an action is legal, then it is possible to be considered as RIGHT. It may not be socially accepted, but that is a DIFFERENT ISSUE.

Dogs get neutered, people professionally beat each other up, abortion is legal, $5.15 for minimum wage is acceptable, God exists and there is only one perfect religion...

Do you see where I am going? There are many issues up for debate and discussion. If you can not prove something as LEGALLY wrong, then you have no right to force something on someone, especially your beliefs.

All statements posted in these forums, whether right are wrong , are OPINIONS - so in the future, please apply the phrase "In my opinion" to your post. This promotes healthy and proper discussion and debate.

The words NEVER, ALWAYS, MUST, HAVE TO, NEED, IS RIGHT, IS WRONG are all autocratic words synonymous with people who tend to be power-hungry, insufficiently educated and simple-minded, and ultimately results in primitive uses of linguistics.

Stay open-minded.

When people ask for help with their snakes, just be KIND. Provide the solutions relevant to the issue with the imperical evidence behind said solutions. When relating your experiences, please do so appropriately. It would be unfortunate for verbal actions of this forum to result in someone's misguided or loss of interest in reptiles.

Thank you.

That is a very important point/ For example, I have a friend who had a bad experience his first time on these forums a couple years back. Since then, he has decided that all "internet people" are idiots and as a result, doesn't know crap about the animals he keeps. Or at least not as much as he thinks he does. The blame in that situation could probably be placed equally on both parties but it demonstrate what some of the effects can be. If someone posts something stupid here, don't chastise them, teach them so they won't post stupid stuff here again...or, if you can't handle that, ignore the post. Myself, I ignore an awful lot of posts. lol

you make a point, but i wonder if you follow your own advice.first you tell us to use the phrase "in my opinion",then you list words that are not to be used, and if posters use these words they are "people who tend to be power-hungry,insufficiently educated and simple-minded,and ultimately results in primitive uses of linguistics".
then you follow up with:"stay open minded" and "just be KIND"
is something amiss here???

Very well done... a great critique. Thank you for your response.

Maybe I did not make things entirely clear.

IMO,

When educating others, and promiting healthy debate and discussion, the words NEVER, HAVE TO, ALWAYS, IS RIGHT, IS WRONG, MUST, or NEED are loaded terms suggesting "I am right, you are wrong" and are only appropriate if the important 'IMO' proceeds them.

What do posters have to do with anyting here? Are you placing posters on this forum? AFAIK, I'd think not, but I could be wrong. The aforementioned text is not a proverb to live life by, it only has any reference to making posts in this forum. Posters are irrelevant here.

I believe that the uses of staying open-minded and being kind are not out of place in that text and are the most important concepts that I would like to see used AMAP.

Do you think that I should re-write that which was done before?

Thank you for you time.

The bottom line, which I think we both understand, is that we are all entitled to our opinions and it is beneficial to all to act in a consistent, kind manner to properly assist those who come to this forum seeking genuine help.

Anyway...Good thoughts. Let's inform, discuss, offer our views, etc........We can do this (hopefully) without insulting, name-calling, judging. A little respect goes a long way. Duffy

Geeze, I was so lost in my train of thought that I misread the OBVIOUS.

Thank you for pointing that out. I am about to revoke my own speaking priveleges.

Good day to you...

my friend you have missed the point again.it's not the content of your post that's i bring to light,it's the double standard.again you give advice then do not follow thru with it.you make a issue of and criticize my use of the word poster then go on to talk about kindness, love and acceptance etc..i wondering if your anger has clouded your good judgement.i have found in life that if you don't back up your words with actions your words will lose there power.it's easy to talk the talk, but difficult to walk the walk.peace.

Dear Kind Person,

Please enlightenmen to my mistakes so that I may become aware of my flaws and rectify them accordingly. Thank you for your time.

There is never any anger. Only love, peace, respect, kindness, and desire to debate.

Thank you again and good day.

I agree with you on not using insults (I have argued the point repededly on the OPEN FORUM).

However...Since most of us are a bit on the audacious side...(lol)

...me thinks that the lack of certain words that you mentioned would sap the flavor out of a good healthy debate.

Of course if it is debate you want...the Real "wild childs" hang out in "OPEN".

As sappy as Trillian sounds, No offense, love and peace and respect really, he does have a point. I to can be punchy and overly blunt, but some people on the boards can be straight out rude. I have seen countless people wrongly accused and then attacked. I have seen people leave these boards due to a group of immature forum users driving them away with insults, accusations, and an amazing talen tof making newbies feel inferior. As much as we would love to yell at all people with dumb, stupid, idiotic and out right ignorant ideas, we do not know thier backround or experience and they might just be new, or uneducated. So as Trillian said, be nice to all those funny forum folk who write weird things with odd views on things.
