You did not mention what type of snake it was, since some snakes can make a popping noise as a defense using their cloaca. However I am assuming its a king since thats all you have listed as your current collection. It definatly sounds like a R.I. On a small colubrid treat it serious. Heat that sucker up and kepp him or her up. Dry the air out as much as possable. Heat lamps dry the air more than heat pads. Add some electrolytes to the water to keep your snake hydrated while the humidity is low. If you don't do this you will compound your R.I. with dehydration.
