Ive always wanted to work with helodermids and can now afford to do so, I am planning on buying a group of 6-7 animals and want to establish relations with serious breeders and enthusiasts.
What exactly are the permitting requirements and for what species do they apply? I know H.s.cinctum is generally unobtainable for CA residents without an MOU, are suspectum and the various horridums easier to permit for CA residents?
What species of horridum are available to our hobby? Is it possible to get alvarezi?
What about the lizards themselves is it more of a personal choice as to which species is worked with? Aside from size and venom quantity are there any major differences between them in terms of husbandry and behavior?
I like them both equally well so it will really be a matter of whats available now and what will be available if I wait till the fall, and how much patience I have.
