Blood and Boa compatibility with small furry animals?

biggworm May 09, 2004 11:29 AM

Hi,Long time no talk.My girlfriend has recently been expressing her need to get a small dog, like a chiuaua or a yorkshire terrier. My question is,we live in a one bedroom and the dog smell will be everywhere, will the snakes (I have a eight foot guyana boa also)consider the dog as prey? Will he try to bite me after I've handled the mutt, ooops I mean dog.I've been trying to talk her into a more medium sized dog like a pit or staphishire terrier(mini pitbull)Will it matter on the size of the dog? Thanks

Any size dog will be looked at either prey or preditor. You'll need to take a shower if you'd like to hold your snakes or take the risk of being bitten. I wouldn't let the dog run freely if the snakes are out and wouldn't have them out at the same time. Anyways just my thoughts,

I have several cats and a young Golden Retreaver. If my snakes had the chance yes they would get one of them. As far as the smell, dont worry about it. Just keep the critter away from the snakes when you have them out.

It really depends on the temperment and personality of both the animals. Of course with a smaller dog they will be more apt to view it as food than with a larger animal. My dog is curious but actually afraid of the snakes so I dont have to worry about her getting nozy. They seem to view her as a predator but haven't struck, just get a little nervous. Shes a white german shepard btw.
