New incubator

snakes May 09, 2004 11:32 AM

Hi!

I have just finished new incubator for colubrid eggs.
I have tested it and moved eggs I already have - it seems to work nearly perfect

This is build from PVC - a friend, working in plastics made for me the box. The heating is on the bottom - in drawer, that I can take out. The air is moved by 3 computer fans, controlled by speed controller, each fan with separate switch (the fans are glowing blue - that are the only ones I was able to get at the time I was building this).
Additionally, the heat source (75W heating rope) is controlled by a dimmer - to keep temp changes at absolute minimum level.

The 5 pipes you see on the pictures are channels for air - blowing at the top, and moved by fans on the bottom.

The drawer is insulated from the main place, so the shelf is not warm. The air is warmed by going through the drawer, where the heat rope is installed.

The capacity of this incubator is about 350 colubrid eggs. If the design will make its work - next year I am going to build a bigger one

Let me know what do you think - if you like it, I can prepare some plans and describe how I built this.

Best regards

ditto, and I hope you keep a good record of temps and humidity, because if it works, it is something that I would love to try!!
good work!

Very creative and nice. I too would love to see some plans covering the construction of such an incubator.
I do have one question: In the bottom drawer is there any place for water to create humidity or is all the humidity created in the individual egg containers from the moisture of the Perlite, Moss, Vermiculite (or whatever you decided to use) and the surrounding heat.
Thanks for sharing,
