Skeleton Mounting

Jim Merli May 09, 2004 01:44 PM

This past week my 15 year old Eastern Diamondback stetched out and died. He came out of brumation not quite himself and refused food. He survived his two female cage mates by a few years and the EDB stud book I have points that 11 and 14 years is the captive life span, so I thought this might happen.

He measured 68" without the rattle and I would like to have the skeleton prepared and mounted. I think it would be pretty nice to have on my dining room wall. I don't know if a regular taxidermists would do a decent job and doubt I'd even trust one inexperianced with snakes with a venomous snake, even though dead.

Thought I'd ask here if anyone knows someone who is capable of doing what I want with it .

Look up skulls unlimited. They will clean and mount specimens for you at a price. It is quite expensive but they do great work.

Jim, I know of a guy in Western Pa. who does a good job. He would give you credit for the hide. I know you are in central Pa. so you could possibly meet up with him. I will have to make a call for his name and number. Let me know if you want me to try and get it for you.
