i was going to open i but decided to check the forums before playing with the dirt and i was looking at beardie hatching pictures and the vermiculite in the pictures looks alot bigger than the picture on the bag and the bag feels like it has smaller stuff in it and i dont want to open it if its not what i need.

I'm not sure, but I think I heard that it expands when it is moistened. To me it sounds like a bad impaction risk, but I haven't heard of any problems from the people here that use it.

Vermiculite is a definite no no in my opinion. I had a green treefrog die from a blockage caused by vermiculite. All the literature I've seen have advised against it. You can get dirt free of it at nurseries and larger garden centres.

do you want the vermiculite for eggs?
anyway i have read once from liturature from my vet that course grade number 3 is the best for eggs but when i went to buy some all they had was one kind and it did not even say what size it was. i know on the collared lizard photo page there are pictures of hatching babies and you can see the vermiculite in the photo. i figured my stuff looked the same as the photo so i was ok. i hope this helps

no i want if for a soil mix for my uros but im not sure if the size matters and i want to make sure what i have is ok before i use it

Since you want to keep humidity between 10 - 20%, using vermiculite for uros (other than eggs) doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Between that and the possible impaction problems I'd stay away from it.

I use sand and have never had impaction problems. If it gets moist it dries out quickly.
