Hi Will,
Thought you might like to see these guys. They are about the same age as your brygooi. To me pyxis are so variable in their patterns it's wild. That oblonga has to be one of the nicest I've seen. These guys were breed by a friend of mine and hatched late April and early May. That's the second oblongs you've hatched correct?
Chad
Chad, that is my second oblonga. He/she really was a surprise as he/she emerged about a month before my last oblonga hatched. It really is a beauty as well. I'm pretty sure I'll keep that one. I have several more oblonga eggs with development as well so we'll see what makes it's way out. I have a few planicauda eggs nearing hatch as well which would be a first for my animals here. I'll post pics of those guys for sure. Your babies are beautiful. The variability of these guys really is amazing. They have definitely become my favorites.
the oblonga especially has a really unique pattern... well, i think so, anyway, though admittedly i don't know much about spider tortoises! do they grow very large? and do they have any exceptionally special needs that make them more difficult to care for than other torts? they certainly seem to be an attractive species. my boyfriend and i are thinking of getting a second shelled "baby" in the future, so we're weighing our options.
