Ornate Box turtle temps

spottedturtleman May 09, 2004 06:15 PM

I built a 4x9 enclosure for a 2.3 group that I am getting this week. I read that they require a temperature of 85 to 90 degrees. This seemed high to me , is it correct? Its still an average of 75 degrees where I live would , would this be a problem ? The enclosure will receive about 10 hours of sunlight in one part or another a day.
Thanks for any responces
Tom

those high temps are bad for turtles-- except tropical turtle. but its one of those things that gets said over and over until ppl beleive it. ornates live in the midwest and up to south dakota even, where it gets realy cold. keep one area nice and cool with a moist place to dig in. one area can be sunny. when the temps get up over about 85 the turtles will hide and find cool areas. they dont like to be warmer than that.
