Regal ringneck snakes

HerperHelmz May 09, 2004 06:24 PM

Is anyone doing any studies or research projects on Regal ringneck snake's "venom"toxic properties in the saliva)? I have heard many different aruments of whether or not their "venom" is quite stronger than people think, one study that I read, a regal bit a night snake that was about 4 or 5 inches bigger than it, bit it once and released, the night snake died 11 minutes after the bite. That's a quicker death than most coral snakes will cause after biting snakes, alot of coral snake prey will be alive after an hour after a bite. If any one is doing studies I would like to hear about them.

I think it is very interesting that alot of colubrids are "venomous". As for the ringneck study the difference in time between a ringneck's venom and a coral's venom could be due to different qualities in the venom. After all most vipers venom works alot different than most elapids venom.

And no i don't know of anyone doing studies on ringneck venom.
