Boaphile Blanket Box Racks?

bachman May 09, 2004 10:42 PM

I never liked the idea of heat tape down the back of racks, but went ahead and tried some of these out. Now my question is...Anyone know how I can keep the hot spot at the back of the cage around 90-95F? Am I going to have to insulate the outside back of these things to get my temps up? They are hooked up to a Helix thermostat with the probe in the back of the middle cage, and I can only get a snakes temp up to 88-89F tops.

Belly heat rules, and I'll never try something different again.

Thanks,
Chad

I use jasons jungle racks and they keep temps at 92 with ease. Do you have controlled temps in your room? When my room gets about 65 in the winter the rack still gets around 88-89. My boaphile cages have the same problem in the winter though. i believe they use a lower wattage heat tape and this causes the difference. Back heat i believe gives a better gradiant.

My room temps are low to mid 80's. The probe on the thermostat reads 92F, but when I use a temp gun on the snakes, (even when they are hugging the back of the cage) they are only 88-89F. Another problem is that with the back heat, it is heating up the whole cage (fine for the Balls, but the cobras are not liking it).

Thanks,

Do cobras need a extreme temp gradiant? I am not familiar with cobra husbandry. I used belly heat in a untemp controlled room for my balls and it was not a good thing

Cobras do not need an extreme temp gradient, but I like to provide it if possible. I cooled the room down a bit and the cool end of the cages are 82-85F, wich will work, but the snakes body temp still only reaches 89F at the hottest spot in the tubs (I would like my BP's to be able to reach 92-95F at the hottest spot).

Thanks again,
Chad
