Problem with Panther

stevie16 May 09, 2004 11:46 PM

I have a seven month old Ambanja Panther (Male) chameleon and about three days ago I noticed what looked like a gel covering over his right eye, just the pupil though. I sprayed him heavily and gave him about fifteen minutes in a warm shower on his ficus. It seemed to clear up but just tonight after he weant to sleep I noticed it again. What should I do?
Temps Humidity fine eating good as well
Thanks for all replies

maybe he got sap from the ficus in his eye?

is there any 'injuries' to the plant where it might be 'bleeding?'

just a guess

Sap from a Ficus is pretty rare. Is the gel clear like a dried mucous? If so there is probably an infection lurking especially as it seems to form while he's sleeping, correct? Try flooding the eye with sterile saline and keeping him really showered for the next day or so. If this doesn't help clear it up you should have a vet examine the eye, take a culture from the mucous, and prescribe an antibiotic.
