I was fortunate enough to witness actual copulation in my favorite pair of Surinams during these last two days.
These animals had been moved numerous times and very far distances in this last year. I was quite worried that they might not take this year due to the relocation/moving circumstances, but I am fortunate.
I had noted weak courting activity in early January. I then tried two other females, all of which he courted, but not strongly or for long periods. Repeated observations and video surveillance yielded no sign of copulation with these others although he courted them some. Apparently it was not their time just yet and these two females are somewhat questionably mature.
On 7 May, I decided to try the original female to him once again and he took to her aggressively. They were seen copulating for several hours this weekend.
They are breeding just about a month later than what they did two years ago, about 1050 miles north of Pensacola.
