maybe a stupid question, but....

I have a clump of eggs, and there's one that seems to be pretty much completely surrounded by eggs on all sides but the top. here's the all important question to all the breeders. Will this little guy in the egg be able to know where to slit his egg?? If not, would he actually go into another egg?? Should I try to pull them apart? How close to hatching should I not move the eggs? Ok, that was more than question. Let me know!

AJ,

Snakes instinctively cut through the top of their eggs. In many cases, they'll make 2 or 3 slits in different parts of the egg before emerging. I've never heard of a snake cutting into its neighbor's egg - that's a very interesting thing to think about! I'd wait until the eggs start to hatch and keep an eye on the "surrounded" egg. If the snake cannot find a place to cut through, I'd carefully remove the hatched eggs around it to give it a better chance of getting out.
