after laying eggs

azlunchbox May 10, 2004 12:16 PM

Well since my Uro has laid eggs i've encountered alot of problems....first the thermometer i was using wasn't right and i was incubating too high.....now i'm not sure if the eggs will hatch or not......The male ended up dieing because the female bullied him and he stopped eating....i seperated him and gave him gatoraid and "Critical care" food that i got from the vet but he was too far gone to save.....and now the female has stopped eating and is being lethargic.....she has been getting gatoraid and daily soaks but so far has not turned around.....she does not look sick like the male did after awhile...but she's starting to show the same symptoms so i'm hoping i have enough time to turn her around.

Any advice?

and i hope this strain of bad luck will come to an end.

are you sure her problems are egg-laying related? maybe she has a bug in her or something. if she is showing the same symptoms as the male before he died, then maybe it is something contagious. i am no expert. what exactly did the vet say about the male when he gave him the special food? does he/she know that your other one is sick too? i mean if she seems sick, then she is going to need some vet care and you may as well do it now while she still has a chance

the vet didn't find anything medically wrong with the male.....and he's one of the best reptile vets around (Dr. Jarchow, i'm sure some of the people around here know about him)

But there was nothing actually wrong with him that could be found....he just started wasting away for no reason and all the doc could do was give eletrolytes and give me that crital care mushy food stuff lol

the male was seperated for about a month from the female before he started going compleatly down the drain.......and then it's been almost another month since then....and the female is just now starting to act like this since after she layed.......so if it was contagious i'd think it would have affected her sooner?

Anyways thanks for trying to help.....i just hope i can work things out......i know i should probably take her to the vet....but at the same time i'm hesitant about having another vet bill with him just telling me the same thing he did with the male and nothing coming from it. ya know?

anyways yeah...............just gotta cross my fingers lol

yeah, it sucks paying vet bills especially if they say that they really cannot do anything, however what if he/she can do something? i am sure your doctor is very good and will help you if he can but if my lizard died and i later found out i could have stopped it, i would never forgive myself. call them and see what they say about bringing her in. i am going to be eating ramen for the next two weeks just so i can get helga to the vet today. hmm, maybe i will steal some of her salad ha ha.
