San Diego Gopher

tegu2002 May 10, 2004 12:35 PM

Hi,
I haven't posted in this forum yet, but I was just wondering about my San Diego Gopher. We got him around christmas time and he is really friendly. But he stopped eating for a while and I was wondering wether it was because he was wanting to mate?? I dont have a female and the pet shop doesn't have gophers very often, well not friendly ones. I live in England so I'm not asking if anyone has one. I was just wondering ifit would be good to get a female and breed him??

Did you hibernate it? The snake may be going through its yearly routine and expecting hibernation ahead. How large is the snake?

I think he is fully grown but I'm not sure if he was incubated before because we were not told when we bought him. He is eating again now. When he stopped eating he was very active and whenever we went to his cage he was moving all over the place waiting for us to open it but when we did and tryed to feed him he got scared of the mouse and ran away.
Im sooo confused!!!

Maybe the temperature was too high. High temps may cause stress. I dont know what the range would be for San Diego gophers, but I do know that other species may stress and not eat when it is too hot. The activity may suggest that since they are quicker when it is warmer. They are a coastal species so I would suspect that they would do well under 85 F, but again Im not too sure I would do more research on the temperatures if I were you. Glad to hear that it is eating, though, good luck in the future!
