AARRGH! Albino and Stripe het albino SLUGS and premies...

Shane Kinney May 10, 2004 01:40 PM

The flash washed the color of these premies out, but you get the idea. 2 of the premies are albinos and the other is striped het albino. These 3 premies and 20 slugs were layed 3 weeks premature from breeding a male albino het stripe to a stripe poss. het albino female. Man, I was really hoping for some striped albinos! The good thing is the striped female is fine and has fed aggressively and is already close to pre-breeding weight and she did prove out to be het albino. There's always the next litter this year and next year I'll try again with this girl!

This is my 4th year in a row trying to produce albinos. Three years ago I bred albino to albino and the female died during gestation from some weird ovarian infection or blockage with 15 developing albinos in her. Two years ago I bred the same albino male to what was supposed to be a 100% het albino female and she dropped 15 normal 100% hets and 15 slugs and NO albinos! Last year I bred a 100% het male to a poss het female who dropped 22 all normal 50% poss het babies. I also bred a albino to a het female who slugged out and a Dh snow male to 2 albino poss het snow females, neither of which took.

Man, these darn boas will really humble you! Pythons and colubrids are so much easier to breed! Good luck everybody the rest of the year with your upcoming litters.

Oh, that's always so sad to see. I hope that any other litters that you are expecting this year go well for you!

Sorry that you are having suck a difficult time. Sometimes it seems like you can do everything right and still have a really bad year. I hope next season works out better

It took me about four years to produce my first albino, and not from lack of trying. I bought them back in 97 and 98 and produced my first albinos last year. This year I was real excited to produce sunglows. I have been working on this for years as well. First I bred a hypo male to an albino female in 2002, I quickly got a DH male from that litter to size, and bred him back to his mom. Well I did get my first sunglow..........it was a stillborn and one DH sunglow (stillborn) and 32 slugs. But like you said there's always next year or the next or the next............lol Boas will keep you in the learning stages ALWAYS.

Good luck,
James W. Arnold

Shane, That is sad to see. I just looked at the SAME thing today. I had an albino that I thought was carrying an AMAZING litter. Well, she was due the 21st and BANG she goes 10 days early. 12 Jungles HET albino.... ARRGGGGGGGGGG LOL. Good thing I have 12 females still to go this month that look good, or I would be feeling the BOA blues. I have learned with the Boas, there are amazing Highs, and some pretty big lows. NOTHING like the Pythons. The good thing about this albino/ WELL IT COULD BE A BAD thing. She still has quite a few babies in her. I have had this happen once before where they drop a few premies, and then give the rest of the babies good. I am HOPING this is the case. If not, I'll be having to send her to the Vet to get these babies removed, and that will probably wipe her out of the breeding colony. I will have a KILLER lavender Albino pet though. LOL. Anyway, STICK with it. You'll proably SCORE huge with your Motley next year. Remember, if you Stick with it, the Boa Carma will ALWAYS be good. I have learned Boas are VERY good to those who are patient. You have certainly been patient. Your turn is RIGHT around the corner. I promise. Take Care, Man that Kings game must have had you in NOTS tonight. Amazing comeback but a 1 point overtime loss. ARRRRRGGGGGG LOL. Later Bro. Jeremy
