Dominant or "in the mood?"

WildBill May 10, 2004 02:35 PM

I put my female in with my male for a few minutes to see if they would get along. He stared at her for a couple minutes, then jumped on her back and bit the back of her neck, but just a little piece of skin. He held on and she drug him around the cage. she's a little smaller than him, but not small enough to be eaten. She's about a year and half old. I'm guessing he's just looking for love, so I'm wondering if she's old enough to breed. Or is this just a dominance display? What do y'all think?

To me it sounds like he wants to mate. This behavior is also a sign of dominance. I have seen one of my females do it to another female, but usually it is the male that is dominant.

But in this case the male is trying to mate. The female shall be at least 18 months so your female is old enough.

So... be prepared for eggs soon.

Thanks for reply. One more thing: He also was trying to shake her, kind of like a croc or something. Is that normal?

That is usually a mating sign. But watch your dragons carefully. sometimes the male can get too rough and then you need to separate them.

Good luck!
