pacman parasites?

pacifico May 10, 2004 03:52 PM

I have a certatophrys ornata, probably 3 months old. I've got him 2 months ago, and since then he's doing pretty well. Last week, removing his poop, I noticed that it was full of "eggs like" things. They are 3-4 millimeter long, transparent, kind of fly's eggs. Yesterday it happened again. I found hundreds of these eggs inside his poop. No insect can have access to the frog's enclosure, so the eggs must came from the frog. I tried to keep them to see if they would hatch, but they dried and died.
Can anyone tell me if they could come from a parasite? Did this happen to anyone? What should I do?
Thanks you in advance for your help.

This phenomenon happens quite frequently. The eggs apparently pass through the GI unscathed. The only parasites that I am aware that would be that visible are tape worms. To prove it, feed only male crickets!

There should also be other cricket parts mixed into the fecals but this sounds about right.

Another way to check is to submit a fecal to a vet for a screening. Most vets do fecals fairly inexpensively.

Thanks a lot! I was really worried. Actually, there are other cricket's parts (legs) mixed into the fecals. The fact that this never happened before, could be because I was feeding him with smaller (younger) crickets. It is amazing that the eggs can pass through his stomach intact.... Any idea how this can happen?
Thanks again.
