Swollen Butt on 2 year old

frogsandchams May 10, 2004 05:11 PM

Enclosed is a picture, kind of yucky, but only way to explain.
My 2 year old Box Turtle I noticed has a Swollen Butt. Some Fecal matter gets stuck in there, which I try to clean out every day, and I wonder if thats what caused it. Anyone ever see anything like this? What should I do? Its not effecting him in any way. He eats, he bathes, he stares.

Lol that does look sickening

I would take him to a vet, he might have something lodged in there he can't pass!

I would continue warm soaks once/day for 10 minutes and
stop cleaning out the area. Also, watch for diarrhea. That
can also cause irration which makes the area swell.

A trip to an experienced herp vet is in order. A fecal should be done to rule out intestinal parasites that could be causing irritation, such as pin worms.

The last MATTS newsletter that just came out had a great article on prolapses, their causes, how to prevent injury until you can get to a vet, and how to treat them.
