Faded Gopher...

jeph May 10, 2004 05:17 PM

Hi Pit people,
I dont keep any pits but i see a bunch of gophers all the time when i'm out herping-(so i snap pics of them) but thought you guys here would like to see the pic. It has a cool looking faded pattern. It had about an inch of intestines sticking out of the vent-(I think it had been out for a little bit cause it had little pebbles and dirt dried on it, and there was blood around the vent) but I let it keep on keeppin on, hoping that nature will take care of it. Thought you guys would like to see the pic though.

Hi Jeff
Poor little guy . The cool neck pattern is what cathes my eyes.

Thanks for sharing

Are you sure it wasn't an active male in breeding season? Sometimes it will stay out for a bit after breeding has occurred.

Hi,
If it was his hemipenes everted out then it was the most swollen I've ever seen, and most likely infected-(it was already dried with gravel-pebbles stick to it, plus all the dirt too) but thats what i was thinking at first. But i dunno. I just hope hes good now...?,

Where did you find this one? Ive seen a two gophers with a faded pattern this year, beautiful snakes. They had typical dark patterning on the neck and then a light brown down the rest of the body. At first, I thought that the first one was a glossy snake. The pattern was so light. The ones I found had much smaller blotches down the back than yours appears to. I should have a pic posted within a few days.
