Rhino Iguana biting female!!

lkerfn May 10, 2004 06:24 PM

i have 2 rhino iguana's about 1 year old. When i put the two of them together in the bath the male goes over and bites her in her back. Why is he doing this? i want to mate them when they get older but i am thinking is this goign to be a problem if she is getting bit by the male? Any info would be helpful....thanks

It could be that he could be practicing his grasping capabilities...they do bite when mating... you will have to watch out for injuries...they are quite possible...Rhinos are long lived animals and from what I hear, they dont start mating for several years...good luck...Lyn
