wondering of a female.

Collaredkeeper May 10, 2004 06:26 PM

This is mainly to Pheve because I only seen her Collareds. I talk to some guy and he said only cb Collared females come in one color(grey), is this true? I have seen yours and yours are yellow and I was wondering if they were wc or not. Where can you find Collareds like yours? You don't have to say where you got them, just if wc or cb.
Thanks,
Collaredkeeper

coloful. Just depends ! Many people on here have gorgeous females, just dont post as much as me, hehehehe LOL

Personally I like all the different species for different reasons, I find something beautiful about them all.

But yes, I also like , and look for the colorful females (especially yellows) I have bought them from different people over the years.

All from different locales too, so cant even pinpoint anything.

I will say this females wc or cb can be colorful !

I have 2 very pretty yellowhead females, one with an almost orangey head, with a blue body, (YOU SAW HER PIC) named Kewanee. She is cb

My other favorite yellowhead female, Chinook she to is cb. She is pictured below again, (I posted it the other night)

So you can tell your friend, cb females CAN be colorful also.

I do have alot of wc males and females, too.

I find some brown females with yellow feet cute, all depends what your looking for. I like diversity. These lizards have that for sure!

The yellowheads are a breeding group I'm trying to put together.

This Pretty yellowhead female Chinook, is CB

True I have seen colorful Cb females. The problem is that I have two cb Collareds and I wasn't sure If I should buy colorful Wc ones to put in with them. Another question, I was wondering if I had enough females, would I be able to have another male.
Thanks alot,
Collaredkeeper

she'll always be my favorite.

First let me say your girl is a very very pretty thing, see, I love her light color and speckles, makes her unique.

Okay, if you get wc's alot of times they have parasites, mites, worms, and you WOULD NOT want to put them with your cb's.

You would have to keep them seperate for a month or so, treat them and make sure they did not give anything to your cb's.

Also, I am not pushing wild caughts, I want you to know that. They are not as hardy as cb.

They sometimes will not eat or acclimate to captivity, and will literally starve to death. In order to try and keep them alive you must force feed.

They do not tame down like cb, you must work with them, handling alittle each day!

Your better off with healthy parasite free cb's to be honest!

I have wc's, but I'm here all day, have alot of time to devote to problems that wc's sometimes have.

And to answer your other question, No matter how big your tank is only ONE MALE !

You could add 2 - 3 females in a tank that size with the male you have.

But no more males. They are very territorial, and will fight.

Geesh sorry for the BOOK !! LOL

I'll stick with cb's. I'll just spend more time looking to buy them. Is the best place to buy them at Reptile expos.
Thanks for your trouble.

hey there
not to horn in on your conversation but like with anything else you purchase, you need to research who you are buying from. i have always read that just because they are at an expo does not make them an expert. i once read a story of people buying an iguana at a reptile show and they really ended up with a water dragon. i would see if you could find out who is going to be at the show (normally they have a list of all vendors) and then research their websites to get good breeders and not just money hungry people. i have never bought one from a show, so everything i am writing is second hand but that is just my two cents worth and it is probably not even worth that much ha ha

Never any trouble, my goodness we love talking lizards, hehehhe LOL

I have no idea about the expos never been to one.

I have only heard there are alot of wc's sometimes crammed in small tanks, to be sold, skinny, so on.

Stick around there are people here that breed and have cb , that will have some real soon.

You can not ask to buy on the forums of course, but when someone says they have hatchlings, you can ask to take it to email, and talk.

There are tons now in the classifieds but all seem to be wc's.

You will find some.

When the collareds come into the classifieds they will be cb. Thats great and all but they will be babies. If i were to put babies into my cage, my lizards would think they are just a retarded cricket and eat it. If I were to buy anything Cb, it is going to have to be big enough to live with my collareds now.
Yet another conversation to start. Well that is what this forum is for.

Here in Montreal, QC, Canada, pet shop only sell Wild Caught
collared Lizard.
They are tame but I would worry about parasite...
so I'm looking to buy a 1.3 or 1.4 group for a 4 feet x 2feet
enclosure.
(separating the male at first)

they can be with each other up to what age? Those I may get are
around 1.5-2 months. I may have to get them in BIG rubbermaid with UVB/basking until I move and make the big Enclosure. (1-2 months)

PHEve May 11, 2004 02:33 PM

You can have 1 male and 2-3 females in a large enclosure, they are fine together. You can not have more than one male they will fight.

You could have very young males together, up til about 8- 9 months But as soon as they become interested in lady lizards watch out, SCALES will fly!! LOL

I wish you a ton of luck with them, if you get them ! They look cute!!

I could house them all together up to 8-9 months and they wont try to mate them?

What is the good age to mate them? I saw some place that said 1 years.

what do you use as substrat?

PHEve May 11, 2004 06:31 PM

housing 1 male and a few females? They can be housed together at all times. Yes they can mate at a very early age around 9 months old.

BUT usually have to be brumated first (sleep a couple months during winter)

I also said that if you got 2 male babies they could be housed together without fighting until that age of about 9 months.
BUT then MUST be seperated!

As far as substate, I use washed playsand for my collareds.
But not with the very small ones. Then I use papertowls.

Hope I did not mix you up too much, hehehheeh !

no I'm gonna get one male, 3-4 female
I will have a 90 Gallon enclosure (4 feet per 2 feet)
18 inch high

since I'm not yet at my next appartement, I'll wait to build this enclosure
So I would house them in a BIG rubbermaid (40-50 gallon)
so I was looking for info on them.

Up to when I could house them , I don't want them to mate at 6 months old, that wouldn't be good for them.

I have made a post on New to COllared, could you look and give some answer please ?
