Recirculating pumps

firenewt88 May 10, 2004 06:36 PM

Hello, I am new to the feild of raising and breeding dart frogs and was wondering if i needed a recirculating pump for my aquarium? I was going to house a group of D.azureus, D.auratus, D.leucomelas, and D.tinctorius. I would have 3/4 of the tank dry land and 1/4 water.

If you're setting up a large palaudium (30-55 gallons), then I'd definitely use a circulating pump. On another note, a water feature is not necessary to breed most dart frogs, just keeping the humidity above 85% is enough. Hope this helps!

i hope you don't plan on keeping all those different darts in the same tank? now for the pump do you mean to have a good size pond in one corner or something? if the pond is big enough, or consists of enough water, circulation would be a must so the water doesn't get stagnent and start to smell.

Hi,

I have found out that Recirculating Pumps have been very helpful in cooling a humidifying my 35gallon tank. I actually have two pumps in my tank. I make the water run over some driftwood and actually direct my cooling fan against it. This makes for a little bit of cooling & helping me in humidifying my tank.

No it is not necessary but it can help in attaining certain requirements for the frogs.
