Incubation

craigreptile May 10, 2004 06:39 PM

Hi,

I recently recived my first cluch of bearded eggs a dozen all together with 1 obviously infertal. I have the 11 in an incubater at 83-84 degrees. I have them in a small container with moistened play sand. I recently bought some perlight. Should i move the eggs to this or will the sand work ok? Also do I put any airholes in the container?

Thanks for your help,
Craig

P.S. the eggs are 2 days old today.

Sounds like your doing everything right, except ive never heard of using playsand as egg substrate. I use vermiculite (perlite). What i would do is get another small container, poke some holes in it for ventilation, and moisten the perlite so that when squished together it balls up, but not soaking and not too dry. WITHOUT TURNING OR ROTATING THE EGGS IN ANY WAY, you can move them into the new container. If you are not comfortable doing this, i recommend not risking it and keeping them in the playsand just so you dont flip and egg or soemthing. I personally have never heard of using sand, but maybe someone on this board has and has more input. I dont know if it holds humidity that well. If you decide on not moving them, i recommend poking holes anyway for ventilation. Good luck, and KEEP US POSTED!!
