crankypunk May 10, 2004 08:40 PM

Hi everyone im a new and verry happy gecko leopard owner :P
I got the little schmuk today when i saw him i just had to get him hehe its been over a year i wanted one.

So anyway at the petstore the lady took it out and put it in my hand and it was all cool didnt run away nuttin just sat on my hand and bliked his eyes ... then i get home prepare the tank put him in a few hours and i decided i wanted to see if he would come to my hand... he was in the corner just sitting there i aproche my hand and he moved a little back i was like i guess hes not comming towards me let me try to pick him up ..
well that was not pretty he pulled this kriiiiishhhh noise at me and i let him back where he was looks like he was pissed at me or somtin ... is this normal behavior when placed in new tank ??

Any good tips for a biginer on how to handel them at first ? is there steps to fallow or just wait till the gecko is ready to come to me ?

thank you all in advance and i hope to learn more from all of you. i will post pictures as soon as i get nice ones.

p.s: sorry for my english :P

ur english is fine ...of what ethnicity are u?...anyway...usually babies are much more hyper and skittish(nervous) than adults....he'll come around...the hissing is somewhat normal....first thing is that u have to make sure it settles down in its new environment because it isn't used to things...leave it alone for a day or two....when he is used to his environment...and starts to get bigger..he'll usually start tolerating handling and the such more....reptiles are puppies...they won't come to u if u call them...hahaha...so for today and tomorrow...don't take it out....don't go bother it...im sure u understand that it must be stressful to change homes...so don't try to handle it for a while....

Don't worry I'm sure you will think of a name soon enough. My family has chosen to name all of our leos names that start with "S". So we have I think something like 12 now with 2 on the way and 3 in the incubator. Take care and keep us posted on your little one.

It is normal....I have 1 that still does that to me and we have had it for 1 month now. Just let it be for awhile. Sometimes when they are little they are like that. Hope all works out for you.
