Racer eating copperhead?

thebronze May 10, 2004 08:49 PM

Buddy described a strange sight to me today.
WHile biking, he came across a "ball" of snakes intertwined on the trail.
1 small copperhead and 1 large green snake.
They looked to be fighting or mating.
He described the green snake as greenish yellow with white spots, which to me sounds like the local blue
racers I see all the time. He said the copperhead was
biting the green snake but didnt seem to be bothered.

Do racers eat other snakes or was this confused copulation attempt?

I saw a n. black racer eat a young E. milksnake once. I also opened a blue racer that had been killed and found two garter snakes, a brown snake, and two mice. It was a big blue.
