IBD!!!!!

Chiropteragirl May 11, 2004 12:06 AM

Hi all, I am new here and made my first post a few days ago about my yearling (est.) who was having neuro symptoms (not righting herself, she hasn't used her tongue, corkscrewing around herself). Vet appt. is in the am. What I would like to know is where can I find more info on IBD. I did a web search and came up with very little. I am still holding on to the idea that it could be meningitis, encephalitis or somethng that can be fixed. I just need more info on IBD because I also have a boa and I am afraid she's next.

Inclusion Body Disease. You will get a lot of "hits" on this disease that way. I think IBD is to vague to use in a search.

Unfortunately your boa might have been first and gave it to the python (if it even is IBD). Apparently some boas live for quite a while with IBD and pass it to breeding partners and offspring and, if you have mites, to other species in your collection. For some reason pythons die much quicker, which is probably better for us because we have a better chance of being sure we don't have it after a quarantine. I think there is a liver biopsy test available for live snakes now. My vet had something to do with developing it and was telling me that he was finding IBD in lots (like half?) of the boas he looked at.
