Can anyone give me a reason why my 3 female phants keep laying infertile eggs.I presume they are dud as they usually lay them on leaves or wood,I did have some laid under moss once but have lost one of my 4 females since then,even then I was unable to sucessfully incubate them, all of my phants are wc so could it be they are to old it is impossible to get cb youngsters here in UK. THANKS

i honestly cant tell you what you're doing wrong...but i can tell you what i did with mine. i always made sure food was vitamin dusted when offered in the breeding season. peat moss was used as substrate. first laying was the night i got her beneath a small leaf. second laying, one egg was under some dead leaves, the other was a cm or two beneath the ground. im guessing that your eggs are just showing up gooey? how long have you had these females? be sure not to toss any eggs unless you know for sure they're duds! have you observed any mating in your group? you have to keep a keen eye...eggs have shown up when i was sure there were none before.

Thanks for info,I,ve had them since july 03 I have seen mating, all food is dusted.The viv is an all glass one with a fine mesh top it is 3ftx 20ins x 20ins,I also use peatmoss there is lots of leaves and bark to hide and leaves on floor.The viv houses 3 females 2 males (one has not always been there) also a trio of ebans.

i dont really know what to say, other than maybe try experimenting? maybe try just isolating a pair to see if things work better that way, perhaps because theres so many others around that things are going wrong? who knows, but maybe its worth a try if what you've got isnt working.
