DO WE HAVE A PROBLEM OR ARE THEY GOING TO BE OKAY???

cv768 May 11, 2004 07:40 AM

We have a 3 year old bearded male and a 2 year old (supposed) female.

(we're not 100% sure she's a female but a so called "expert" sexed her and said she is a female even though the bulges seem to look more maleish...anyway)

We put the two together and the male chases down the "female" and pins her while biting her neck...he does not ever make an effort to breed, it's almost like he's stating his dominance. But he does this often and the female is about 300 grams and the male is about 350 so he's got a bit of an advantage.

Either way...I'm wondering what we should do...and if this is male/male fighting or male/female dominance stating?

any suggestions?

Do their faces look the same? I have a female, and our pet store had some males, and I could tell the difference just glancing at their heads. My famles has a short rounded snout, and the males are much longer and pointier, for grabbing onto the female for mating.

the ONLY way to sex a Beardie is if you see the hemipene bulges it is a boy. If you dont it may be a girl. it is more definate with older animals but the lack of bulges in babies and small juvies is inconclusive.

can you guess the male and the female by their face here?

Lipstick

as for the head bobbing and chasing around, if they dont settle down they should be seperated so as not to stress the submissive one regardless of male/female issues.

Tang is the Boy

I agree that the head is not a proof positive way of sexing. I do think after a while you can tell that females have a more "femine" face, but usually not until they are in adulthood and there are certainly exceptions.

He said they were adults, thats why I suggested it. And actually, to me the difference is obvious in those photos.

Yeah she looks different, the males usually have bulges at the back of their heads...the female does not. She does look like a female but her underside doesn't really seem to be female like...although we got her looked at and the guy said she is a female...but with this behavior we are unsure.
