First, before anyone says this is an advertisement, I want to assure you it is not. I will not be selling any of my boas online nor shipped. I am simply looking for advice on prices for if/when I decide to sell them locally. Now, with that out of the way.....
My boa gave birth to her litter of 13 on May 6th and my best friend has already selected her pick of the litter for letting me use her male. I'll probably keep a couple as holdbacks, but I'm uncertain as to what I should charge for the remaining offspring. Here's the background on the male: In 2002 my best friend's female gave birth to a litter of 21-23 containing a partial reverse stripe and a partial stripe with abherant saddles, the rest were anywhere from absolutely normal to those with just abherant saddles. We were positive that the female had been kept at the proper temperatures throughout the gestation and that this was not a temperature related anomoly. However, except for our respective holdbacks from the litter, she sold them as normals with some genetic potential. This winter, I used her male with my female because we were trying to determine which of her pair was the potential genetic contributor to the abherant offspring produced in her 2002 litter. Because the results in my litter weren't as drastic as her litter was, we're suspecting both of her pair are the genetic contributors.
My litter shows several offspring with elongated connected saddles along the tail section and some have a few abherant saddles on the body. Nothing drastic or spectacular, but definitely not normal either and, at least to me, proving we do have something odd going on with the genetics (future breeding trials will prove it out definitively, but that's a ways down the road). Now, on to the main question......What would be a fair asking price for these boas? Normal babies around here run from around $75-$95 at shows. I was leaning towards the higher end of the normal range but was wondering if these warrant any special pricing or should I just sell them as normals but with a potential for some genetic abnormalities?
Your advice and input are appreciated.
Thanks,
Raven
