How long till eggs get laid?

PyroAdi May 11, 2004 09:21 AM

Hi,

sorry if this has been asked before but my lovely lill gecko is due to lay some eggs shortly. I am wondering how long does it normally take. (I am guessing that it has been arounf 3-4 weeks since she was at it with the male.)

Secondly, is it normal for her to be building a "sand castle?" She is piling all the sand in the tank in one corner in the tank. The "castle" is centred on the water dish.

Thirdly, what do people reccommend as an incubator or a hatchery and can I keep the hatchlings in the same tank as the adults?

Adi.

She's probably piled all the sand on the water bowl b/c you have not provided her with a moist lay box. If you do, she should lay shortly.

What do you suggest? As it's been around 3 weeks already....

if she lays her eggs on the sand it will dry them out.

since from what he said she is "building" it over the water dish, she is using the moisture from the dish to make the sand damp so the eggs don't dry out...It's probably not the best place for her to lay...besides the fact that it's basically obliterating thier water source...but I doubt that the eggs would get dried out. What should really be done is to supply a "laying box." Take an empty margerine tub or something similar, cut a hole half way up the side, and put some moistened vermiculite or sphagnum moss or something like that into it for her to dig and lay. It also makes for a great humid hide.
