I enjoyed reading the article; it had some great pictures. I thought the picture of the Albino Eastern hog was great. Also it said this: "Unfortunately, easterns have been difficult to reproduce in captivity. ...over the years about a dozen albinos have been discovered and yet none have reproduced in captivity." I knew there were maybe one or two albino easterns but never had any idea there were a dozen. I also didn't know it was hard for easterns to reproduce in captivity. Maybe they should give the albinos to A..C.!! He doesn’t seem to be having problems. LOL! Nice article.

Richard (who owns a petshop in Lubbock and sells many wild nasicus along with his breeding projects) may be privy to one (?maybe) albino platyrhinos (c'mon guys, there aren't that many wild bloodlines of amelanistic corns), but the fact that no one can breed them is INCREDIBLY questionable. H.platyrhinos are easy captives and breed as readily as any cornsnake. Granted if you want them to eat you have to look at their natural history. Even if you can't fathom feeding them toads, scenting is quite reliable (stick with hairless rodents). Despite the redundant replies on this forum that platyrhinos are difficult; it's not true! If you feed them what they would normally eat they are among the easiest captives. However, I will tell you that if you expect most platyrhinos to eat unscented rodents you're on the road to nowhere. Simply put: they are specialists. Shane

very true on platirhinos. They are rather easy to keep when bought as cb babies. People are often discouraged when they buy wc adults who often succumb to parasites and stress after a few months. Easterns are easy to keep and breed and certainly are specialists.
They are my favorites, and I'm actually glad they haven't caught on. This keeps prices relatively low and the edge is still there on keeping the species!

Yeah, they're one of my favorites as well and always have been. Hey man, I thought you would chime in on my rodent post above. I guess I'll have to post on that other hognose forum to get some more responses. Shane
